ARTIST BIO

      Jiena Laine Klein is an interdisciplinary artist  depicting autobiographical experiences contextualizing identity, home, politics, and society. In a perpetual state of resistance, Jiena creates work under the name JNIZ to pay homage to her roots. She examines past and present experiences  through the lens of an individual excluded from dominant culture. Jiena has moved over thirty-four times, lived the reverse norm of societal standards, and is a storyteller of her journey navigating a contemporary society.

      Jiena earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Oakton Community College and was awarded the Koehline Museum Scholarship. Jiena received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago, where she is the recipient of SAIC's Presidential Merit Scholarship. Jiena is an interdisciplinary artist and works with many mediums to communicate her work.
